If travellers are considering to take in other towns or areas of Tuscany in their trip to it is essential to know how the weather changes from one zone to the other.
Variations are caused by the different lay of the land in Tuscany. The coast and valleys are hotter than the hills where it is common to have more rainy days. Minor and broad variations yet with a common denominator, mildness, characterize the climate in Tuscany.

Spring and autumn are the best moments to visit Tuscany, particularly from April to June and September to October thanks to its ideal and fine weather, more open activities, fewer tourists and more affordable prices. A substantial change takes place when the peak season arrives with its very hot days and unfair prices.

Heat and shortness of rain characterize the summer high season (July and August) with some scorching days which are hotter in towns. Temperatures ranging from 23ºC to 30ºC are common in July and 38ºC to 40ºC are the typical valley temperatures in the same month. The Italian and foreign holidaymakers travelling to the region are literally hordes in this season.

Mid August typical rain makes temperature drop and days become cooler. September can be a month with some heat and October is fabulous to organize a trip as days are cloudless, full of sun and cities are still not overflown with tourists.

Lower temperature characterize November, the moment to join others in a regional activity, an attraction offered in the area: the harvest, interesting to many travellers eager to be involved in such traditional work.
Cold and humidity levels are harsher in the winter particularly at night in the hills. The lowest yearly temperatures are January’s which are from 3.5°C to 5.5°C inland and 7ºC on the coastal strip.
